Kandy

Featuring a proud Sri Lankan heritage and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Kandy is also a bustling hill country with a weightage for the Buddhist Culture in Sri Lanka. Kandy was made a world heritage site in the year 1988 and the city lies on a plain surrounded by virgin hills and tea plantation. The Kandy Procession is a colorful event that attracts many guests from all over the world to take part in the festivities in the month of July and August depending on the full moon Poya of each month.

Within Kandy lies the Temple of the Tooth Relic, where it is the home for the tooth relic of Lord Buddha which is one of the most important and well visited by many devotees. Kandy is also well preserved as a golfers region where Victoria Golf Club brings together lands and lands of greenery to enjoy a well-planned golfing experience.

Peradeniya Botanical gardens which is just outside of Kandy town was introduced as a Royal Pleasure Garden by the kings of Kandyan Era. Kandy is also known for its mini adventures to Udawattakelle for bird watching, Lankathilake Temple, Gadaladeniya Temple and Emebekke Devala for its magnificent wood carvings. Kandy was also the last capital of Sri Lanka which was governed by Sri Vikrama Rajasinghe the last king of Sri Lanka is yet preserved as a world heritage site.
