Walawwa

Relax and de-compress at The Wallawwa, the 18 bedroom beautifully renovated country house hotel set amongst tropical gardens and just 15 minutes from Colombo airport or 30 minutes from downtown Colombo. Once the Head Chieftan of Galle’s country residence and formerly part of the RAF’s headquarters during WW2, the Wallawwa is now a retreat for tired and weary travelers, serving as the perfect staging post for a trip around Sri Lanka. With its signature Z Spa, wonderful Verandah restaurant with its own organic gardens, oversized suites and resplendent gardens the boutique hotel has become a trusted favorite to discerning tourists and locals alike for its levels of service, food and laid back atmosphere.

The Wallawwa has a rich and engaging history. In Sinhala the term ‘Walauwa’ or ‘Wallawwa’ is used to express both the Sinhala concept of aristocracy and the physical location of the primary seat of a particular Sinhala family who enjoy high connections to the local kings or colonial masters. Dating back to the 18th century, The Wallawwa is by far the most ancient pile of its kind in the entire province. It is this history and the Wallawwa’s tranquil landscaped surroundings that transport anyone arriving through its gates back in time, far away from the speed and stress of the outside world.

Exquisite a la carte Asian Fusion cuisine is on offer at The Verandah, the convivial open-sided all-day dining restaurant overlooking the 200-year-old tropical gardens. Innovative menus use the finest ingredients available in Sri Lanka, and many of the fruits, vegetables and herbs used to prepare these freshly cooked dishes are plucked daily from the extensive kitchen garden. A selection of fine wines, cocktails, spirits and beers perfectly complement the menus.

Sri Lankan flavours are celebrated in many dishes, including in the delicious selection of local curries and in the fresh fish and seafood, which are sourced from the local Negombo Fish Market. Familiar international dishes include gourmet handmade burgers and pizzas, alongside soups, salads, pasta and succulent meats. Chefs can cater to all dietary requirements with prior notice, and a kid’s menu, BBQ menu and in-room dining menu are also available.

Zen out at one of Teadrop’s exclusive Z spa’s, designed with the weary traveler in mind with a range of treatments and internationally trained therapists from across Asia.
