Each year, between July and October, Minneriya National Park becomes the stage for one of the most spectacular wildlife gatherings on Earth — the Elephant Gathering.
Drawn by the shrinking waters of the Minneriya Tank, hundreds of wild elephants congregate in a breathtaking display of nature’s rhythm and resilience. Calves play by the water, matriarchs lead their herds, and the golden light of dusk casts an ethereal glow over the plains.
This phenomenon offers a rare opportunity to witness elephants in their natural habitat, unbothered and free — a poignant reminder of Sri Lanka’s commitment to conservation and the wild beauty that defines its heart.
