Commonly known as the “Annual Elephant Gathering”, takes place during the dry season starting from mid-July to the end of September and occasionally the gentle giants would extend the annual gathering to October. Being the best site not to miss out on, the elephant gathering takes place around Minneriya Tank where the wonderful creatures of nature gather in search of water and bathing as herds.

The scrub forest of Minneriya invites the gentle giants to gather during the dry season because of the manmade lake that provides vegetation and water for the survival. The magnificent view of the gathering from the jeep that takes you on safari from 6:00am to 9:00am or 3:00pm to 6:00pm attracts wild life photographers from all over the world.
